THE DIFFERENCE MAKER

Another Christmas has come and gone. I hope everyone is enjoying this time of year and taking the necessary rest we all need. I took a down week from training last week and stretched a bit. My work load was very heavy and I needed the rest. The high rep KB work has caught up with me and my body needs a little break from weights.

So today's post is about a book I started reading by one of my favorite authors, leadership expert John Maxwell. For those of you who are into self growth and becoming a better leader I highly recommend any of John Maxwell's books. This book "the difference maker" is about the importance of "ATTITUDE" and how it really does make a difference in everything you do.

So what exactly is attitude? Attitude is your inward feeling expressed by outward behavior. Ultimately your true attitude will wiggle itself out and it will be exposed. Here is what a good attitude cannot do for you:

1) Your attitude cannot substitute for competence.
2) Your attitude cannot substitute for experience
3) Your attitude cannot change the facts.

If you are 5 feet tall, your dream of playing in the NBA is out. Having a positive attitude cannot change reality. If you don't got it, you don't got it. As the old coach used to say, "You can't get out what God didn't put in."

4)Your attitude cannot substitute for personal growth. You still have to get out there and learn, apply and grow.

5) Your attitude will not stay good automatically. You must constantly choose to work on it and develop it. You can read, watch and meditate on CRAP or you can input words, music and information that is uplifting and empowering. The choice is yours!

More to come!

don't forget when building up your base this time that the key is NOT what you can do in any workout. the key is what you can successfully recover from. then you add on.
Happy new year!

oh yeah, and sometimes what God put in is not immediately apprarent. Rebember spud web? 5'4" and one of the nba's best dunkers/

Franz,

Great post man! There is wisdom in the fact that success is the convergence of motivation, a positive attitude, skill and natural talent; not to mention pure random chance...sometimes you just plain get lucky!

Either way, think positive thoughts, work hard to achieve your dreams, don't become discouraged by the set backs, and above all else trust in God that you will be rewarded for the good work that you do.

Thanks for the advice Rif. It seems like any extra volume I do makes me excessively sore. Because I have a physically demanding job, I really have to be careful with volume and MUST, I repeat MUST take back of weeks. In fact, I need to schedule them in. I took last week off and my whole body feels so much better.

And of course, you are right about Spud Webb. Sometimes things are not apparent right away. But for every Spud Webb there are thousands of smaller NBA wanna bee's who will never make it. My advice is for people to be realistic with what gifts they do have, and what gift they don't have. Focus on the gifts you do have and go for it 100%.

Thanks Tom for the feedback. In my experience it seems that being successful in life hinges on all the factors you talked about including maintaining a humble yet confident attitude. God's laws work for everyone, and when you apply them they are certain as gravity! Merry Christmas and hope you and your family had a great one!
